A CNN poll analysis from political data reporter Harry Enten found Zohran Mamdani is currently the most popular Democratic politician among voters, with a net favorability rating of 54% among Democrats and left-leaning independents.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries trailed far behind in third place at just 22%, underscoring how quickly the first-term New York City mayor has eclipsed the party’s longtime leadership.
The numbers landed as Enten also flagged dismal approval ratings for Donald Trump and a generic congressional ballot tilting toward Democrats ahead of the midterms.
Not every poll agrees on the comparison. A Harvard CAPS/Harris survey taken in late August found Trump with a better national net favorability rating than Mamdani, at -8 points versus -14, with Harvard pollster Dritan Nesho’s team noting both men remain underwater overall.
Mamdani’s standing is strongest closer to home: a Quinnipiac poll found 46% of likely New York voters view him favorably statewide, rising to 60% among voters across the five boroughs.
