Entebbe: Cabinet has approved an additional six acres of government land for the United Nations Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, increasing its total land allocation from 20 to 26 acres as the facility expands its responsibilities supporting UN operations across Africa and beyond.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Yoweri Museveni on Monday, October 26, 2026. The land will be reallocated from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.

Established in 2010, the Entebbe centre provides financial, human resource, administrative, logistics and information technology support to UN operations.
The facility has exhausted the space available on its current 20-acre site and is taking on additional responsibilities as the United Nations consolidates services previously handled by other offices, including the Kuwait Joint Support Office, whose functions were transferred on July 1, 2026.

According to figures presented to Cabinet, expenditure by the centre's staff contributes approximately US$40 million annually to the local economy, while contracts with local suppliers account for a further*US$33 million.
The combined US$73 million supports businesses supplying goods and services to the centre and its employees. The facility is also expected to become the UN system's largest travel ticketing office, handling approximately 250 tickets daily.

The expansion strengthens Uganda's ambition to position Entebbe as a regional hub for international organisations and centralised administrative services.
It could create further opportunities for Ugandan professionals and businesses in hospitality, transport, catering, information technology, travel management and other professional services. However, government has not yet announced specific additional jobs or contracts arising directly from the six-acre allocation.
