On Saturday 26th September 2026, Inspire Africa Coffee Park hosted the 9th edition finals of Kitunga Cranes league where Akahuri FC was crowned champions after defeating Zone FC 3–0.

The league brings together former students of Muntuyera High School Kitunga from all corners of the world. The 9th season attracted 14 teams and it has been running for nine years as a platform for old boys to maintain physical fitness, strengthen friendships and remain connected to their former school.

The Yolknights @AkahuriFc Are the champions of #KitungaLeague season 9️⃣🥳🥳🥳🤩

Kitunga League chairman Andrew Ntungomwe said they choose Rwashamaire as the venue for their 9th edition finals because they wanted to recognise the community’s contribution to the school and its former students.

One old boy from Kimiranku FC said that Rwashamaire Town is the capital city of Muntuyera High School, implying that coming to Rwashamaire for 9th edition grand finals reflects the love and pride OBS of Kitunga have for Rwashamaire.

The league treasurer, Michael Mukundane says “We go back to take the heritage and inspire the other OBs around Ntungamo and Mbarara.

The boys league is more than a football competition. It is a forum built around a clear strategic vision to unite our alumni across generations, strengthen our bonds and create opportunities for meaningful engagement.

The relationships built through this fraternity have the potential to extend far beyond football. They can strengthen professional networks, create opportunities for collaboration and contribute to responsible leadership and community development”

Inspire Africa Coffee Park which hosted the finals is owned by industrialist Dr Nelson Tugume who is known as a senior OB of Kitunga High School.

Ntungamo District NRM vice chairman, Mr Asuman Kigongo represented the management of Africa Coffee Park.

Today we are privileged to have hosted Kitunga League. I thank the management and old boys of Kitunga for having chosen to host it at the coffee park. The reason why they chose Inspire Coffee Park is because it is near the school, and the CEO, Nelson Tugume, is an old boy of Muntuyera High School Kitunga,” Kigongo said.

Kigongo added that hosting the event also provided an opportunity for Inspire Africa Coffee to showcase and promote its products. Boys have love our products and they have enjoyed our coffee. They have really supported us.

The event attracted several partners, including Guinness, Inspire Africa Coffee and NBS Sport.

Representing Uganda Breweries Limited, Arthur Mugasha said Guinness views football as a platform for building friendships and bringing communities together beyond the competition on the pitch.

“It’s great to be here in Ntungamo for the season finale of the Kitunga League sponsored by Guinness. For Guinness, football has been about more than what happens on the pitch but about the conversation, friendship and those moments that give people a reason to come together,” Mugasha said.

Muntuyera High School Kitunga headteacher Joram Muzahura said the league has become an important platform for keeping former students physically active while strengthening their bonds.

“We are here today at the grand finale of Kitunga League Season Nine. It has been going on for the last nine years. These are the old boys of the school who organised this league. The significance of this league is to keep our old boys physically fit,” Muzahura said.

Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga Kafureka, who was the guest speaker at the awards ceremony, commended the alumni for their contribution to the school’s transformation and legacy.

“Congratulations Muntuyera High School Kitunga for making a landmark and prosperous intervention. I don’t think in the history of this country, we have seen an old students association intervene in a school and make the difference you have made,” Karuhanga said.

He cited the growth in student numbers as one of the indicators of the impact of alumni involvement, saying the school had declined to about 200 students in 2017 before growing to more than 1,300 students in subsequent years as former students became more actively involved in its affairs from 2018.

The other crowned teams are;

Kyasha FC was named Fair play Team of the season 🔥

Odudua FC was named Smartest team of the season.

Aboojo Fc was named Most improved Team of the season
