MBARARA CITY NORTH NRM FRATERNITY GUFFAWS AT RUKAARI AFTER REQUESTING FOR VIRTUAL CROSS-EXAMINATION.

By Musa Rwamigoye

National Resistance Movement Party members living and working in Mbarara City North Division were shocked after hearing that Hon Mwesigwa Rukaari feared to be cross examined normally in court and appealed for virtual cross-examination. NRM elders of Mbarara City North Division were not happy with Hon Rukaari's decision of getting cross-examined virtually, saying that it’s a sign of fear and dread. With full of guffaws, elders and youth of Mbarara City North said that they have lost morale in Hon. Rukaari. On 21st September, Hon Mwesigwa Rukaari appealed to Judge Tom Chemutai at Mbarara High Court for virtual cross-examination.

NRM mobilizers in mbarara are saying that If you petition, you should stand firm and support your petition. Its vague to challenge someone in court and then start hiding when time for proofing occurs. Hon Rukaari should stand with his supporters and be available in court on the day of cross-examination. When you start hiding, also your supporters lose morale.

Other leaders in mbarara are not happy with Hon Rukaari’s decision of undergoing cross-examination via virtual, saying that you can’t be with a such serious case and start behaving that way. Virtual cross-examination has its own challenges beginning from network and weather. Virtual cross-examination can prolong the case because court can keep on adjourning the case in case there is a problem of network.

A group of Bakashaba diehards are saying that their opponent requested for virtual cross-examination because he has already lost the case. He was hoodwinked by a certain group of people and petitioned without finding out the original academic centers Hon Bakashaba passed. We assure that our beloved MP Bakashaba a.k.a HUMURA has authentic academic requirements needed for one to contest for mpship.

“We want to assure Hon Rukaari that he is just wasting his money and time. It would be better if he had accepted the defeat. He should know that mbarara city north natives nolonger trust him. Our trust and hope is in Hon Bakashaba Chris nowadays”.

Hon. Mwesigwa Rukaari, through his lawyers from Mungurile, Kandiho and Rukundo Advocates and Legal Consultants challenged the parliamentary victory of the incumbent Hon Bakashaba Chris for not being with valid academic qualifications required by the EC for one to be nominated and elected to the position of MPship.

The petitioner (Hon.Rukaari) asked the High Court to summon key officials and individuals for oral cross-examination in his petition challenging the election of NRM’s Christopher Bakashaba yet himself is not willing to undergo it.

The petitioner lost the January parliamentary elections with a difference of 676 votes to Hon Bakashaba Chris. According to Electoral election, Hon Bakashaba who contested on the National Resistance Movement-NRM ticket, was declared the winner with 5,478 votes against Rukaari’s 4,802. The other candidates were Benon Kajubi, who obtained 4,225 votes; PFF’s Agatha Atusasire with 1,738; Peter Mpaka with 481; Moses Nuwagaba with 182; independent candidate Nassulu Karungi with 136; and Democratic Forces-DF candidate Mubaraka Bukenya with 45 votes. The substantive petition remains pending before the High Court.

However, Hon Bakashaba says that even up to now, he doesn’t know the real person he contested with since the positioners academic papers are not accurate. Hon Bakashaba says that Hon Rukaari’s academic papers have different names at every level of education. He says that at O’leve he was Mwrsigwa Rukari. Then at A’level he became Mwrsigwa Rukaari and at University he is Rukaari Mwesigwa.

Among to be cross-examined are; petitioner Robert Rukaari, Kato Isaac, Robert Twiine, Christopher Bakashaba—not the MP—Julius Nuwagira and others
