Democracy is one of the great tenets of the National Resistance Movement (NRM),and therefore one of the pillars that restored our country's diginity. This milestone needs to be safeguarded by our court system in order to enhance the country's political and economic landscape.
Recently it was great news when it was announced that the Judiciary had commenced the hearing of 346 election petitions, with 100 judicial officers to man the two months long engagement.
The assignment includes 48 high court judges, and 52 magistrates who will handle 30 cases filed across 30 High court circuits, the Civil division of High court and 26 Chief magistrates courts.
The cases arise from the 2026 Parliamentary and local council elections. The Judiciary notes that the High court will start on Monday, September 14 and run until November 13.
This progress signifies the steady transition of Uganda to strong democracy safeguarded by court system in order to ensure transparency in our electoral process.
The Judiciary ,as one of the crucial arm of government have come out to prove that they have a robust system to address electoral grievances which increases trust in government by the people.
I therefore like to thank President Yoweri Kaguta Museven and NRM for the great mission anchored on restoring political stability, security and rule of law.
In the same vein,We also show gratitude to the stewardship of the Judiciary headed by Chief Justice Hon.Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija and his deputy,Hon. Justice Moses KAZIBWE Kawumi; the Principal judge,Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo; Permanent Secretary/ Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr Pius Bigirimana and Chief Registra , HW Agnes Alum, for giving priority to development of Uganda's democracy and to ensure that necessary resources are availed for this marvelous activity.
The constitution of Uganda embodies the principles of democracy, National unity, transparency and accountability which have guided the Movement since it's founding and therefore should always be protected to shape the bright future of the Pearl of Africa.
